To mark Women in Construction Week, Alice Maughan, Creative Director at Stronghold Homes, mentor in the I Am a Housebuilder programme and R&B Housebuilders Forum member, wrote a heartfelt letter to her daughter about her experience as a woman in the housebuilding industry.
The letter was inspired by a question her daughter once asked in a room full of developers: "Where are the female housebuilders?"
Running an SME housebuilding business alongside her husband Karl has taught Alice the value of patience, perseverance and courage, qualities that have helped shape her into a confident and decisive businesswoman.
When the opportunity arose to take part in I Am a Housebuilder, Alice initially hesitated, feeling others may have been more deserving. But she soon recognised that this very doubt was precisely why her voice needed to be heard.
Alice’s letter is a powerful reminder that representation matters, not just for the women already in the industry, but for the next generation wondering if there's a seat at the table for them too.
