The Regional & Bespoke Housebuilders Forum is throwing its full support behind a national petition calling on Government to take urgent action on Britain's housing crisis. We urge our members and industry partners to sign and share it immediately to help present a strong case for support for housebuilders.
The Let's Get Britain Building — NOW! petition, addressed to the Secretary of State for Education and the Minister for Construction, sets out three clear demands from Government:
- financial incentives for homebuyers and improvers
- a simpler and faster AI-powered planning consent process
- accelerated investment in construction skills and careers.
The sector is facing one of the most serious challenges in living memory. Fewer than 2,000 small housebuilders remain in operation, down from over 11,000 before the 2008 financial crisis. As build costs continue to increase, regulation tightens and the sales market slumps, more SMEs will likely be forced to exit the market.
The campaign calls for an integrated solution to stimulate demand, unlock supply and restore confidence.
