Chaired by Sarah Edwards MP and supported by members from both Houses, the APPG examines the challenges facing SME builders, scrutinises the regulatory environment, and makes practical recommendations to Parliament on how policy can be improved to enable more effective housebuilding at the smaller end of the market.
SME housebuilders were once responsible for the majority of new homes built in the UK. Today that share has fallen dramatically, squeezed out by planning complexity, land access barriers, and a finance landscape that increasingly favours large volume developers. The APPG exists to reverse that trend — convening builders, industry representatives, and policymakers to share evidence, identify solutions and press for the regulatory and legislative changes needed to unlock growth.
Through regular parliamentary meetings, published reports, and active engagement with the sector, the APPG gives SME housebuilders a direct voice at Westminster, ensuring their concerns are heard where it matters most.
